Still not done with your spring cleaning or wondering where to start?  Whether you’re in the mood or not, you have no choice – the cleaning has to happen.  Sooner or later, you will need to straighten and organize everything.  Fortunately, there are some cleaning hacks that can help you do things quickly and properly.

Make Your Own Bleach

Combine the following ingredients to make your own bleach and save money:

• Hydrogen peroxide
• Lemon juice
• Baking soda

Make Your Own Citrus Spray

Do you want to make your countertops shine? Make sure to save up lemon and orange peels to create your own homemade citrus spray.  This is a great way to keep things looking and smelling fresh.

Clean Out Your Drawers

When cleaning your house, start with the messiest drawer, kitchen, or bedroom.  Throw out items that you don’t need or relocate items that don’t belong there.  Put back everything else, but make sure they’re organized.

Clean Showerheads with Vinegar or Grapefruit

Use a rubber band, plastic bag, and vinegar to clean shower heads.

Do you want a clean and shiny showerhead, knobs, and faucets? Clean it with half a grapefruit.  Your shower will smell amazing.  It’s also a great time and money saver!

Cleaning Scrub

Use salt and lemon to clean up things like your cutting boards.  This homemade cleaning scrub is a great way to scrape out everything and kill off bacteria.

Clean Dishwasher with Vinegar and Baking Soda or Kool-Aid

Place a container with white vinegar in the top rack of your dishwasher.  Run the dishwasher on its hottest cycle.  Sprinkle baking soda on the dishwasher’s floor and run it again on a short hot cycle.

You can also clean the dishwasher with Kool-Aid.  It’s cheap and it can give your dishwasher a good cleaning.  It removes the nasty smell too.

Clean Stove Burners with Ammonia

Don’t clean your stove burners with harsh chemicals. Place them inside a garbage bag and take them outside.  Add ammonia and seal up the bag.  Double bag the burners if necessary if you’re worried about the vapors escaping.  Leave the bag for a day and wait for the ammonia to do its magic.  Then, cut open the bag outside, hose the burners down, and watch the grease fall off.  This works with your BBQ grill as well.

Clean Oil with Oil

Oil splatter can be such a headache.  They’re the worst to clean.  The soap just can’t do the job right. So, here’s a little trick - use oil to pick oil up!  Add a few drops of vegetable oil to a paper towel and then use it to wipe the greasy surface.  Once you’re done, you can just clean the surface with a towel – and voila – sparkly clean surfaces!

Clean Hard Water Stains with Vinegar

Hard water stains can be disgusting.  They’re an eyesore.  They’re a nightmare to clean.  Clean them with vinegar to make them disappear.  Place a few paper towels soaked in vinegar on the stains.  Leave them for an hour and come back later. Wipe the area with a towel until clean.

Clean Carpet Stains with an Iron

You can remove carpet stains with vinegar, iron, water, and a clean rag.  Mix 2 parts water with 1 part vinegar and put the mixture in a spray bottle. Spray the stain, dampen the rag, and place it on the spot after you have saturated the spot with the solution.  Set the iron on the steam setting and iron the rag for 30 seconds or longer depending on the stain.  When you pull up the rag, this will pull the stain as well.  The vinegar removes the odor too.
