Cinco de Mayo is observed in May.  It is a celebration of the defeat of the French army during the Battle of Puebla in Mexico on May 5, 1862.  It is a day celebrating Mexican pride and heritage.  It is a day devoted to celebrating its culture, tradition, and history of Mexicans living in the United States.

Cinco de Mayo celebrations are quite popular in cities like San Jose, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Antonio, Albuquerque, Phoenix, El Paso and Denver.  A large number of its population hails from Mexico.  People would hang banners and organize events to educate people about the culture of Americans of Mexican descent.

It’s a not a federal holiday.  Businesses and school operate as usual.  However, there are areas where local parades cause traffic congestion.  Many people also prepare a feast to celebrate their culture and heritage.
